Lady Broncos start with league wins over Wilbur-Creston

The Lady Broncos’ started their season off strong with two wins while in Creston. The double header wasn’t a very thrilling game with the first ending 27-6 and second game 22-5.

The Lady Broncos showed patience and discipline at the plate as the Wildcats pitcher walked a majority of the LRS team.

The Lady Broncos started their season off on the right foot, played smart and showed good sportsmanship after weather delayed the opening games against the Wildcats, O’Brien said about the team.

The Saturday double header against Northwest Christian (NWC) was a good test to see what level of competition the LRS girls are at.

NWC, being extremely competitive and one of the top teams in our league overtook the Lady Broncos in the first game 10-0.

Emma Aldrich pitched the first game and her teammates played solid defense throughout the whole game.

The Broncos held NWC until the sixth inning where plays simply didn’t get made allowing NWC to score seven runs and ending the first of the two games.

Head Coach Todd O’Brien stated there really weren’t any errors, instead hesitation leading to poor decisions defensively. Simply put, the plays just didn’t get made in the final inning.

Janna Mattox switched with Aldrich for the second game, which proved to be a battle. Mattox pitched very well, tossing strikes over the plate. Aldrich played excellent defense on third base.

The Lady Broncos kept the game within two runs all the way to the top of the seventh inning where they tied it up 6-6.

The girls played competitively to the end of the game with an 8-6 loss to NWC.

O’Brien said he was very proud of the discipline and plays executed by the Lady Broncos especially keeping NWC within the 10-run ruling during the second game.
