Bronco girls split with Asotin

RITZVILLE - Despite splitting a doubleheader Saturday, April 20, with Asotin, the Bronco girls remained two games back in Northeast 2B fastpitch.

The Broncos won the opening game 9-2, but lost the second game, 10-9.

Asotin took a 2-1 first inning lead, but the Broncos took over the game in the bottom of the second for a 3-2 lead and keeping the Panthers off the scoreboard the rest of the game.

The local girls added another run in the third, three in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

Asotin had 4 hits and 2 errors in the opener; the Broncos had 9 hits and only a single error.

Maddy Cameron, Hannah Towne and Harlee Hennings each scored two runs.

Hennings hit two homers and added 4 RBIs on three hits in the opening win. Cameron added 3 hits for the Broncos.

Towne and Megan Melcher each had 2 RBIs.

The Panthers were led at the plate by pitcher Kierra Nielson, who had two hits and scored once. Cady Browne had 1 hit, 1 RBI and 1 run for the Panthers.

Towne pitched the win for the Broncos, as Nielson took the loss.

Towne, Melcher and Alejandra Novoa each had one hit for the Broncos. Towne's hit was a triple.

In Game 2, Asotin jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first inning again, and Lind-Ritzville tied the game at 3 in the bottom of the third.

Asotin retook the lead in the top of the fourth on two runs, only to hand in back when the Broncos scored three times in the bottom of the fifth.

Trailing 6-5, the Panthers answered with four runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh. The Broncos could only muster three more scores, coming up one short in the 10-9 loss.

Asotin had 12 hits and 2 errors in the game. Lind-Ritzville had 8 hits and 7 errors.

Melcher, Hennings and Reeta Dean each has 2 hits in the closing game, and Hennings had 5 RBIs. Lea Cadiabren and Cameron each added 1 hit.

Scoring runners for the Broncos were Cameron, Armstrong, Melcher, Towne, Hennings and Dean.

For Asotin, Cady Browne had 4 RBIs, Bella Dalkosto added 2, and Isabella Dougan and Avery Tripplett each had 1.

Cady Browne scored 3 times in the game; Leilani Koehler, Dougan and Jayne Crockett twice; and Katie Bittle once.

Nielson pitched the win for the Panthers.

Following the split, Asotin (10-4, 8-4 in league) held onto fourth-place in Northeast 2B league play and Lind-Ritzville (8-6, 6-4 in league) remained in fifth.

The Bronco girls will host Northwest Christian (Colbert) in a league doubleheader on Saturday, April 27. The Crusaders (10-4, 7-3 in league) are in second-place in the NE2B.

Asotin was scheduled to travel to DeSales on Tuesday, April 23.
