Three vie for Distinguished Young Woman title March 20: Holly Nygren

The annual Distinguished Young Woman program is rolling into Ritzville once again, bound to take place on March 20 starting at 7 p.m.

Three junior girls are participating in the program and competing for the title this year.

The event is being held in a new location: at the Ritz Theatre.

Presale tickets are currently available for $5, or can be bought at the door for $6 the night of the event.

Tickets can be purchased from Stacey Schoessler at Northwest Farm Credit, Jan Marshall at Ritzville City Hall, or from any contestant.

This year’s contestants are Holly Nygren, Samantha Asmussen and Hallie Jo Galbreath.

Holly Nygren

Holly Nygren is the daughter of Steve and Heidi Nygren, and has one younger sister.

She has been highly involved in the community and high school as she has participated in the Ritzville Nazarene Youth Group, FFA, and marching band. She is also athletically involved, playing volleyball, basketball and running track.

Holly has given her service and help by being a volunteer for Vacation Bible School and serving in the Wheat Land Communities’ Fair Royalty.

She also had the opportunity to be a part of a Mission Trip to Ecuador. Some of Holly’s achievements include competing in state FFA contests, serving as class president, being in the Honor Society, and being an Academic State Champion along with her basketball teammates.

Holly also dances ballet and pointe, and loves to travel and go camping. Her favorite musician is Carrie Underwood, and she loves the movie Annie.

She enjoys reading and has deemed “The Root Cellar” by Janet Lunn her favorite novel.

Holly’s plans for after high school are to attend either Grand Canyon University or Corban University and possibly pursue writing and journalism.
