Ritzville Police Department Reports

June 12, 7:31 p.m.- A complainant on West Fourth Avenue advised that their garage had been entered and the cabinets had been left open. The vehicle parked in the garage had also been prowled but nothing appeared to be missing. The complainant was not requesting officer contact and just wanted to report the incident.

June 12, 7:32 p.m.- A complainant on East Sixth Avenue advised Chief McCormick that their vehicle had been prowled the night before. Nothing had been taken and the complainant did not want officer contact.

June 13, 1:35 a.m.- While on patrol Sgt. Cameron found a gate on North Washington Street open. Cameron checked the area and asked dispatch to contact the responsible party. Dispatch advised that someone would come close the gate. Cameron cleared from the scene.

June 13, 2:25 a.m.- A complainant on East Fifth Avenue reported a car alarm was going off. The complainant called back and reported that the alarm had stopped. Sergeant Cameron responded to the call and found the neighbors garage open but found no one.

June 13, 2:39 a.m.- Sergeant Cameron responded to East Sixth Avenue where a complainant advised that they heard someone outside. Cameron did not find anyone and checked with the complainant that their security lights were working.

June 13, 2:43 a.m.- While in the area Sgt. Cameron found the man door to a garage open on East Fifth Avenue. Cameron attempted to contact the owner by calling and ringing the doorbell and got no answer. Cameron secured the door and left the area.

June 13, 8:52 a.m.- A complainant reported a suspicious vehicle on East First Avenue. Subject advised they were getting out of the hotel room to let their companion sleep.

June 13, 10:53 a.m.- Sergeant Cameron was contacted by Adams County Juvenile Court to serve a warrant. Cameron went to the juveniles’ residence on Ninth Avenue and took them into custody without incident. The juvenile was handed over to Martin Hall.

June 13 11:11 a.m.- Sergeant Cameron responded to East Broadway Avenue after a complainant reported receiving a bad check in the mail. Cameron advised the complainant to not cash the checks that had been coming in the mail. The complainant wanted to track the people responsible for the bad checks. Cameron advised to contact the post office and talk to their investigators.

June 13, 12:22 p.m.- A complainant advised of a vehicle being driven at high speeds on Division Street. Sergeant Cameron contacted the driver of the vehicle at Zips who advised they were from out of town and not familiar with the speed limits. Cameron advised them to be more attentive and slow down.

June 13, 1:07 p.m.- While at the court house a complainant advised Sergeant Cameron of a theft. The complainant reported a large aluminum ramp had been stolen from their property around May 27. The complainant suspected someone stole it for scrap.

June 13. 4:07 p.m.- Chief McCormick responded to West Cherry Avenue where a complainant reported the metal pipe on his trashcan was missing. The complainant had reported it to the City Clerk’s Office and advised they would let the garbage man know when they come to collect the trash.

June 14 1:38 a.m.- A complainant advised Sgt. Cameron they were having a dispute with their family. The complainant advised that they were tired of having an unlicensed driver drive their car. Cameron called for a county unit to respond as the location was in the county. Cameron contacted the parties involved and discovered the complainant had Alzheimer’s and was confused. Cameron was able to calm the subject and get them back into the vehicle. He advised the family if the situation worsened between Ritzville and their destination to pull over and call 911.

June 14, 12:33 p.m.- A fire alarm was activated on Galbreath Way, before Chief McCormick arrived on scene the alarm was canceled by employees who noted that someone was smoking in the restroom.

June 14, 6:00 p.m.- Chief McCormick assisted Franklin County Sheriff’s Office in contacting a subject.

June 14, 7:00 p.m.- Sergeant Cameron responded to South Division Street where a complainant advised that they had been threatened. Cameron talked to the complainant and the subject before talking to their parents. Cameron suggested the parents sit down with both parties to resolve the issues.

June 15, 9:40 p.m.- Officer Gracie was dispatched to East Seventh Avenue. A complainant had advised that subjects were demolishing a car in the driveway and that they had a fire in the backyard. The subjects advised Officer Gracie that they were preparing the car to be a demo-derby car. Officer Gracie advised them that it wasn’t a good idea to be demolishing a vehicle at that time of night and observed the fire in the backyard. The fire was in a stone fire pit and was being attended.

June 16, 2:15 p.m.- A complainant requested that the police department serve a subject on Cherry Avenue civil papers. Officer Cameron served the papers and cleared from the scene.

June 16, 11:52 p.m.- Dispatch advised Officer Gracie of suspicious subjects in the drainage ditch on the south side of Cherry Avenue. Officer Gracie conducted a sweep of the area but was unable to locate the subjects.

June 17, 9:18 a.m.- A complainant advised that they had seen two or three teenagers burning something in the alley the night before. Chief McCormick advised complainant that if they had called at the time the teenagers were in the alley there would have been a chance to catch the teenagers and put a stop to the behavior.

June 17, 2:53 p.m.- Complainant contacted to police department to file a police report. They had discovered that someone had obtained their mothers Discover card information and had used courtesy checks that totaled to $11,000 in 2010.

June 17, 8:53 p.m.- Dispatch alerted Officer Tom Gracie of a suspicious helicopter at the airfield. Officer Gracie located one helicopter that did not match the complainant’s description and advised dispatch of his findings.

June 18, 11:51 a.m.- Chief Dave McCormick contacted a complainant on East Seventh Avenue. While they had been away on vacation their neighbor had pushed a pile of wood against the fence, which had caused damage to the fence. Chief McCormick contacted the neighbor who said they had already spoken to the complainant. Damage to the Fence totaled at $40 to replace to posts set in concrete.

June 18, 12:28 p.m.- Complainant requested an officer contact a subject on East Lauder Street and to have the subject call them back. Chief McCormick contacted the subject at the listed address who said that they’d have someone return the call because they had difficulty with their disabilities.
