Mayor proclaims EMS Appreciation Day

Mayor Linda Kadlec issued a proclamation establishing Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, as EMS Appreciation Day.

The proclamation coincides with a reception planed for the same day to honor the emergency services personnel and others who responded to a multi-vehicle fatality collision on Interstate 90 on Dec. 20.

The city and the Ritzville Area Chamber of Commerce will host Honor Night at 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at the C.J. Newland American Legion Memorial Hall. The public is invited to attend.

The following is the proclamation:

A Proclamation of the City of Ritzville for Extraordinary Efforts by our Emergency Medical Services

Whereas, emergency medical services is a vital public service; and

Whereas, The members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and

Whereas, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and

Whereas, the emergency medical services system consists of emergency physicians, emergency nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters, educators, administrators and others; and

Whereas, the members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills; and

Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the value and the accomplishments of emergency medical services providers by designating a special day; and

Whereas, in recognition of the individuals who gave so much of their time and efforts regarding the incident on I-90 on December 20, 2013; now

Therefore, I, Linda Kadlec, Mayor of the City of Ritzville in recognition of this event do hereby proclaim February 26, 2014, EMS Appreciation Day.
