Annual Mennonite Country Auction returns Saturday

The annual Mennonite County Auction and Relief Sale returns to the Menno Mennonite Church grounds on Saturday, Oct. 5, for the 36th consecutive year.

The day begins with a pancake breakfast from 7-9 a.m., followed by the booths opening at 10 a.m. The Liberty Quartet will be featured at 10:30, and the auction begins at noon. Parking and admission for the event is free.

The Mennonite County Auction and Relief Sale is one around 50-relief sales held in the United States and Canada.

Proceeds from the auction are used to support international relief, development and service ministries of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC). Over the past 35 years, the auction has contributed over $2,000,000 to MCC.

The auction includes items such as Amish and Mennonite quilts, baby quilts, wall hangings, tied comforters, afghans, antiques, collectibles and household items.

Ten Thousand Villages has a booth at the event and articles for sale generally include traditional crafts such as baskets, wall hangings, jewelry, musical instruments, nativity sets and more.

Quilters’ Corner Plus also has a booth at the event where supplies and fabric may be purchased. Great Gatherings for MCC has antiques and collectables, and visitors are also encouraged to bring loose change to contribute to the Penny Power fundraiser.

Demonstrations will include apple cider and apple butter. Both of these products are also available for purchase.

Food at the event includes hamburgers, smoked sausage sandwiches, homemade pies and ice cream, baked goods, stone-ground flour and corn meal, ham and slab bacon, green bean soup, bulk sausage, barbeque chicken, Canadian pure maple syrup, Amish cheese and New Year’s cookies (raisin fritters).

Cash or checks are accepted at the event with current identification. All items purchased are tax deductible.

All are welcome to attend the event and enjoy a day of fun supporting a good cause.
