Ritzville Police Department Report

July 31, 5:16 p.m. – Sergeant Mark Cameron responded to a possible traffic hazard on Weber Road and Galbreath Way in the Starbucks parking lot. Dispatch advised of a golf cart on a city street. Upon contact, Sgt. Cameron advised the subject to not drive the golf cart on city streets in lieu of a car. The subject advised they understood and returned the cart to the golf course.

July 31, 1:49 p.m. – Sergeant Cameron responded to a citizen assist call in the 600 block of West First Avenue at Harvest Foods. Complainant advised of a female subject in the store, who fit the description of a shoplifting subject from earlier in the month. Sgt. Cameron arrived and learned the woman paid with a check this visit and retrieved the subject vehicle plate number from management.

July 31, 12:11 p.m. – Sergeant Cameron responded to a possible hazardous condition in the 400 block of South Cascade Street at Rose Garden Estates. Upon arrival, Sgt. Cameron contacted the complainant who advised a male subject that visits a resident at the facility smokes in close proximity to the residents, while some are on oxygen, and is in violation of state law by smoking within 25 feet of a building entrance. The complainant stated they do not want the subject trespassed from the property yet, but would like the police department to contact the subject to remind them of the state law.

July 31, 11:50 a.m. – Sergeant Cameron responded to a welfare check request in the 100 block of East Third Avenue. Complainant advised of a female subject using drugs while caring for their children and no food is in the residence. Sgt. Cameron contacted the subject and advised them of the situation. Sgt. Cameron observed food in the residence and no signs of drug use.

July 31, 10:54 a.m. –

Dispatch advised of a complainant requesting contact in regards to a vehicle situation. Sergeant Cameron contacted the complainant in the 300 block of North Chelan Street who advised they had sold a vehicle three years prior to a subject who claimed to be from a wrecking yard. The subject further advised they received a toll charge from the Department of Licensing after receiving the bill of sale. The complainant wanted to know if there is a system that keeps track of charges occurred by vehicles. Sgt. Cameron advised there is no such system and the complainant thanked Sgt. Cameron for his time.

July 30, 11:30 p.m. –

Complainant requested contact in regards to a possible theft that occurred. Sergeant Cameron contacted the complainant by phone who advised they believed their iPad and three ring binder were stolen from their vehicle while parked at the gas station. The complainant further advised they found the missing items upon further search of the vehicle.

July 30, 9:20 p.m. – Dispatch advised of a juvenile problem in the 800 block of South Division Street at the City Park. Officer Tom Gracie responded to investigate.

July 30, 8:42 p.m. –

Dispatch advised of a suspicious male subject in the area of First and Weber. Officer Gracie responded and contacted a subject matching the description given. The subject advised they were walking to their hotel from the Texaco.

July 30, 4:25 p.m. – Dispatch advised of four subjects panhandling in the 100 block of West Galbreath Way at the Chevron. Complainant stated the subjects were advised to leave, but are still there. Sergeant Cameron contacted the subjects and advised them the property owner would like them off the property. Sgt. Cameron warned the subjects about aggressive panhandling. The subjects advised they understood and would move on.

July 30, 12:17 p.m. – Dispatch advised of four juveniles walking in the fenced area of the railroad tracks near Adams Street. Sergeant Cameron contacted the juvenile subjects and warned them of the dangers of being on the railroad right of way. They advised they understood and wouldn’t do it again. Sgt. Cameron cleared.

July 29, 12:55 p.m. – Sergeant Cameron responded to a traffic accident in the 200 block of North Adams Street. Dispatch advised of a collision at the intersection involving a semi truck and a telephone pole. Upon arrival, Sgt. Cameron contacted the complainant and one witness who advised the semi was southbound on Adams and turning westbound on Third when it collided with the pole. The witness further stated the driver stopped a block west of the collision and then left the area. Sgt. Cameron observed damage to the pole approximately eight to 10-feet off the ground and it was splintered but appeared to be stable. Sgt. Cameron advised dispatch to contact Avista regarding the damaged pole.

July 29, 9:09 a.m. –

Dispatch advised of a complainant requesting contact in regards to a recently purchased vehicle. Sergeant Cameron responded to the 200 block of East Broadway Avenue and contacted the complainant who stated they picked up the vehicle from a third party in Easton. The third party advised the vehicle was abandoned on their property and the registered owner was deceased. The complainant requested assistance in determining if the vehicle is stolen. Sgt. Cameron checked the registration of the vehicle and a driver’s check on the registered owner and all reports came back clear.

July 28, 9:00 p.m. – Dispatch advised of a silent alarm activated at a residence in the 300 block of West Second Avenue. Officer Hunter Klewin arrived and found all doors and windows were secure, and observed no signs of forced entry. Officer Klewin attempted to contact the residents but there was no answer at the door.

July 28, 8:42 p.m. – Officer Klewin responded to a possible burglary in the 200 block of South Division Street at the Lutheran Church. Upon arrival, Officer Klewin contacted the complainant and found the side door to the church had been damaged. The complainant stated they checked all the other doors and windows and they were secure.

July 27, 10:25 a.m. –

While on patrol, Chief Dave McCormick observed a semi tractor parked in the no parking zone in the 1100 block of Fairway Avenue. Chief McCormick contacted the driver and advised them of the City ordinance prohibiting parking on that section of the street. The driver advised they would seek a new place to park while they are home.

July 26, 5:41 p.m. – Dispatch advised of a possible harassment situation on East Tenth Avenue at the City Pool. Upon arrival, Sergeant Cameron contacted the complainant who advised a 13-year-old female subject was yelling and making threats from outside the fenced area to other subjects in the pool. Sgt. Cameron contacted all parties involved and helped them work out their differences. All subjects were warned about using foul language around the city park.

July 25, 10:59 a.m. – Sergeant Cameron responded to an agency assist call in the 200 block of West Ninth Avenue. Upon arrival, Sgt. Cameron contacted Adams County Sheriff Deputy Aaron Madison who was taking a subject into custody per a probable cause for fourth degree assault from Moses Lake. Sgt. Cameron stood by while Deputy Madison took the subject into custody.

July 25, 8:14 a.m. – Sergeant Cameron responded to a 911 hang up call in the 100 block of West Galbreath Way at the Best Western. Upon arrival, Sgt. Cameron contacted the occupants of the room the call originated from and they advised everything was okay. A female subject advised they had misdialed the phone and Sgt. Cameron cleared.

July 24, 9:28 p.m. – Dispatch advised of juveniles playing on the construction equipment located at the high school football field. Officer Gracie contacted the juveniles who were running through the field sprinklers. The juveniles denied being on the equipment. Officer Gracie advised the juveniles to avoid the construction equipment and use caution in the area. Officer Gracie did not observe any signs the equipment had been tampered with and cleared.

July 24, 9:16 p.m. – While on patrol, Officer Gracie observed a juvenile subject sitting at the corner of South Columbia and East Second Avenue. Officer Gracie confirmed the juvenile has court ordered curfew of 9 p.m. and transported the subject back to their residence.

July 24, 7:53 p.m. –

Dispatch advised of a disturbance in the 500 block of First Avenue at the Colwell Motor Inn. Officer Gracie arrived and contacted subjects in the area who stated two female subjects became involved in a verbal altercation.

July 24, 5:24 p.m. – Chief McCormick responded to a possible traffic hazard on Weber Road. Complainant advised of heavy semi traffic hauling wheat in the area at high rate of speed. Complainant requested extra patrols during harvest season.

July 24, 5:22 p.m. – Complainant called Chief McCormick and advised of a parking problem on South Fairway Avenue. The complainant requests extra patrols in the area and violations issued if necessary.

July 24, 2:04 p.m. – Dispatch advised of a possible burglary in the 400 block of West First Avenue at the Westside Motel. Sergeant Cameron arrived and contacted the complainant who advised they are missing several items from their apartment. The complainant further advised they have been laid up due to injury and haven’t seen the items for three weeks. Sgt. Cameron searched the premises and did not observe any signs of forced entry. Investigation ongoing.

July 24, 11:34 a.m. – Sergeant Cameron responded to a possible fraud situation in the 200 block of West Main Avenue at Columbia Bank. Upon arrival, Sgt. Cameron contacted the complainant and the victim who advised of an attempt to use the victim’s checking account. The bank representative stated 11 different transactions were attempted and caught as possible fraudulent use. The total amount of the attempted fraud is $18,932.45. The bank advised they are working on finding where the attempted fraud took place. Investigation ongoing.

July 24, 10:52 p.m. – Chief McCormick responded to an agency assist call on Fairway Avenue. Lincoln County Sheriff requested assistance in contacting a subject reportedly living in Ritzville. Chief McCormick contacted the family of the subject and advised them to have the subject contact the complainant.

July 24, 10:25 a.m. – Chief McCormick responded to a hazardous condition in the 200 block of West Fifth Avenue. Complainant advised of a vehicle up on blocks in the street in front of the residence. Upon arrival, Chief McCormick observed the vehicle and contacted the registered owner to advise of the complaint. The subject advised their fuel pump went out and they are in the process of replacing it and would be done before noon. Chief McCormick thanked the subject and cleared.

July 24, 1:15 a.m. – Dispatch advised of suspicious subjects in the backyard in the 100 block of East Sixth Avenue. Officer Gracie parked the patrol car in the alley and approached the area on foot. Officer Gracie did not see or hear anything while approaching the location. Officer Gracie conducted a sweep of the yard and neighboring yards and no one was found in the area.
