DYW float receives awards

Distinguished Young Woman of Ritzville

The Wonders of Oz float has traveled to Spokane and Moses Lake over the past two weeks to participate in two parades.

On May 18, the float and its riders were in the 75th Spokane Lilac Festival Armed Forces Torchlight Parade. They were awarded the Princess Award and first in their division.

On May 25, Moses Lake welcomed the Wonders of Oz in the Spring Festival Parade. The float was awarded the Queen’s Award.

The members of the Ritzville Distinguished Young Women Court would like to thank the Ritzville Festivals Association for designing and building such a beautiful float.

They would also like to thank their dads for driving the truck, which holds the float, so early in the morning and working so hard in the dark after the parades to get the float back into the truck safely.

They would like to thank John Marshall for driving the float during the Lilac Parade as well.

To their mothers, they would like to say thank you for your endless help with building the float first, and then assisting them in the parades as they walk along side the float and make sure they look presentable in their costumes!

They would also like to thank the community for coming to the float preview in May and for all of your support!

They have a full summer ahead of parades and activities that they look forward to, and hope to share with all of you.
