The student body of Washtucna Schools has been extremely busy these past few weeks.

Despite a sweeping sickness that plagued the area and the excitement of post-season basketball, our students have persevered to continue their achievements in academics.

Here is a look back to what our school has done since December.

Upon our return from winter break, students and teachers began immediate preparations for the first semester finals. This is undoubtedly one of the more stressful times of the school year as students study extra hard for their finals, while at the same time continuing their commitments in their extra-curricular activities.

Teachers also bear some of the stress as well as they do their best to help their students be as prepared as possible and put together the material that the students themselves will be tested on.

To add to the usual pressure of passing final exams, nearly every student in Washtucna was infected by the sickness that plagued the area and other communities. Students who were recovering from the illness now had a limited amount of time to prepare.

Fortunately though, our students toughened up and took their tests as ready as they would ever be, and passed with flying colors. Once finals were over and the all ailments were cured, the daily school routine was again reestablished. Now, our student organizations are in full swing with their activities.

The Associated Student Body (ASB) officers have begun planning for the annual Easter Egg Hunt in Bassett Park, which will take place on Saturday, Mar. 30. The exact time of the hunt will be published soon.

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter is also planning their own educational activities as they get ready to attend Sports and Marketing Day hosted by the Tri-Cities Americans hockey team and franchise.

FBLA chapters from around the state will travel to the Toyota Center in Kennewick and attend workshops that educate students on sports and marketing business throughout the day.

A catered dinner will be served that evening, and then each club will be able to watch a Tri-Cities Americans hockey game.

These past few months have been wearisome for most students at Washtucna, but with hard work and dedication, all obstacles were overcome.

Now with the academic success and the continuing victories earned by the LW boys basketball team, Washtucna continues to be a great school to learn and a wonderful community to grow.
