Vehicle prowling continues

Over the past couple months we have been plagued with vehicle prowling in Ritzville. Despite recent arrests, it seems to continue.

Just last week, we had four separate reports of vehicles being entered through unlocked doors. Change, small electronic items, sunglasses, small personal items, clothing, shoes, and even a handgun, are among the items taken.

One thing in common with each one of these vehicle prowls is the vehicles have been left unlocked.

First of all, do not leave valuables in your vehicles; take them in the house with you. If you do choose to leave some items of value in your vehicle, do not leave them in plain view, lock your vehicle or put these items in the trunk.

If you would take a minute to lock your vehicle, it will most likely not be prowled and your belongings will not be stolen. It will be helpful if you hear something outside at night, see persons in the area that you are unfamiliar with, or you see a dome light on in a vehicle with no one around, that you call the police and report these suspicious incidents.

It also may be helpful if you leave your outside lights on all night or install motion detectors on your exterior lighting.

Please help us help you keep your belongings safe by calling the police when you first notice anything or anyone suspicious. We need your help to prevent continued vehicle prowling.
