Tigercats continue winning season

The Tigercats earned an early Christmas present with two wins during last weekend’s outing. The Tigercats first defeated Rosalia in a league game, 58-45, before winning a tough fought non-league game against Tri-Cities Prep.

Against Rosalia, the Tigercats earned an early lead and ended the first quarter ahead, 19-9. Rosalia put on the pressure in the second quarter and the Tigercats went into halftime with a score of 32-19.

Darcy Stamper stepped up to lead the team offensively, ending the night with 25 points. Jed Zimmer continued to control the boards for the Tigercats, and contributed 16 points to the final score.

Justin Wargo had six points, and Alec Fleming earned five points during the night. Both Sam Harder and Matt Stubbs earned three points during the league game.

“One of our keys was to limit their second chance shots and (we) did a good job with Justin, Jed, and Darcy rebounding really well. Offensively, Rosalia did a good job of plugging the middle and we opened up some outside shots, and Darcy was shooting well and we found him. I was happy with our ball movement and see us getting better in our execution,” said head coach Mike Jones.

The Tigercats then took on Tri-Cities Prep for the second time this season, and won the game 58-42 to continue with an undefeated season.

Jones said the team played solid, even after playing back to back games, and is most proud of the team for holding TCP to 10 points in the first half. The Tigercats went into halftime with a score of 28-10.

Zimmer led the team with 26 points; 16 off of assists, six from offensive rebounds and four from free throws.

Stamper continued to hit important shots and added 16 points to the scoreboard in the non-league battle.

Wargo had 11 points, while Harder earned three points and Fleming contributed two points to the final score.

“I was really pleased with how the kids played; it was a good team win,” Jones added.

The Tigercats move on to compete in the Dayton Tournament on Thursday and Friday, with the first game to be played at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 27.

The games resume the next day at 3 p.m. in Dayton.
