96th annual Lind Field Day slated for Thursday, June 14

The Washington State University (WSU) Lind Dryland Research Station is coordinating the 96th annual Lind Field Day on Thursday, June 14. Vice president for Agriculture and Extension, Daniel Bernardo, is extending an invitation to community members to join the field day group with tours of the research plots, a lunch and an ice cream social.

The tour provides those in attendance with the opportunity to learn about the research that benefits dryland producers in eastern Washington. The event is open to individuals and families.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. on June 14, and the field tours being promptly at 9 a.m. The field tour topics include: timing of primary spring tillage, winter wheat breeding, camelina oil processing, spring wheat breeding, club wheat breading, soil microbial changes with irrigation, and deep-furrow drill prototype advances.

Stewart Wuest, Arron Carter, Steve Camp, Mike Pumphrey, Kim Campbell, Linda Thomashow, David Weller and Bill Schillinger leading the field tours.

The noon program consists of updates from representatives such as a crops and soils update led by Rich Koenig, College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Services (CAHNRS) update from Bernardo, wheat emergence update by Kulvinder Gill, Washington State Legislature update from Senator Mark Schoesler, Washington Grain Commission update from Tom Zwainz and a gift of grains discussion led by Caroline Troy.

At the event, special on-site transportation accommodations are available, and Washington Pesticide Recertification and Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credits have been requested.
