Ritzville Lions participating in White Cane Days

The Ritzville Lions Club is participating in White Cane Days (WCD) fundraising event on May 4-5. This is the 43rd consecutive year that Lions Club members have participated in WCD across the state of Washington and northern Idaho.

From 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on May 4-5, Ritzville Lions Club members are asking for contributions to support the sight programs of the Northwest Lions Foundation. The money raised helps support programs such as Lions Patient Care Grants, Lions Health Screening Unit (LHSU) and Lions Support Grants.

In 2011, the LHSU provided free check-ups for sight, glaucoma, diabetes and blood pressure, giving more than 29,000 free screenings. The Patient Care Grant helps individuals who cannot afford sight loss treatment and assisted 32 individuals. The Project Support Grants provided over $130,000 in grant support to other non-profits who protect and restore sight.

This event is based around Helen Keller’s challenge of being “knights of the blind,” and Lions Club members are determined to assist children and adults with sight restoration and preservation.

The location for the Ritzville event is still being determined but is to be announced at a later time. For more information about the event, contact the Ritzville Lions Club at 659-0543.
