Wheat Land Communities' Fair seeks 2012 royalty

The Wheat Land Communities’ Fair Board is now accepting applications for 2012 Fair Royalty. There are three positions open to young ladies, 14-18 years of age. Candidates must live within the boundaries of the Lind, Ritzville and Washtucna School Districts, be currently enrolled in school and entering grades nine through 12, in the fall of 2012.

The chosen royalty represents the Wheat Land Communities’ Fair in local parades throughout the summer, as well as present trophies, awards and ribbons during the fair. This year’s fair takes place from Aug. 30 through Sept. 2.

The announcement of royalty occurs at the fair’s annual Wampum event, held on Apr. 28, in the Knuth building at the Fairgrounds. Judging is completed prior to Wampum and is based on applications, personal interview and presentation of a 200-250 word essay on, “The value of Wheat Land Communities’ Fair to the communities of Ritzville, Lind and Washtucna.”

Applications are available at any of the three high schools. Application deadline is Mar. 20.
