Viola M. (Schwandt) Blauert

Viola M. (Schwandt) Blauert died at the age of 100, on Jan. 19, 2012, at Life Care Center of Ritzville. She was born on Aug. 2, 1911, at Pullman, Wash.

She married Fred Blauert on June 15, 1932, and celebrated 54 years of marriage before his death in 1986. They spent their married life on a farm near Spangle, Wash., where they raised their five children.

In 1969 they retired to Spokane where they became active in the Lincoln Heights Congregational Church. She was active with the Paper Packers and Ladies Groups as long as she was able. They transferred their membership from the Paradise Grange to the Moran Grange. She was a “life” member and participated in many activities. She moved to Ritzville in 2004 to be closer to family, and resided there until her passing.

Survivors include her sons, Frederic (Timmie) of Washtucna, Carl of Moses Lake; and daughters, Marvel Hinrichs of Spokane Valley, Karen Polley of Juneau, Alaska, and Kathy Gillis of Ritzville. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great great-grandchildren.

A brief committal service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe St. in Spokane. A celebration of her life will be planned at a later date.
