Eighteen to go shopping with local police, deputies

More than $1,900 has been donated and will make it possible for 18 children to participate in this year’s Shop with a Cop program on Saturday. The Ritzville Police Department is leading the local effort. Local law enforcement, including the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington State Patrol, will take selected children shopping for Christmas gifts for their siblings and parents.

The children will gather Saturday at the chamber office at 9:30 a.m., take off on their shopping adventure and then meet up again at Zion Philadelphia United Church of Christ where they will have help wrapping the presents. They will also enjoy hot chocolate and treats.

If there is enough money left over following the shopping spree, McCormick said gift cards will be purchased from Harvest Foods for each of the families to also help them have a great meal for the holidays.

McCormick said wrapping paper, ribbons, bows and gift tags are also needed. To make a donation, please contact the Zion Philadelphia’s Pastor Judith Rinehart-Nelson or Joyce Preston at 659-1440.
