State auditor issues clean audit for Adams County

Adams County successfully completed an independent audit conducted by the Washington State Auditor’s Office. The audit included a financial statement audit and federal grant compliance audit.

Results of the audit were shared with elected officials and the Adams County Commissioners on Sept. 6 during the exit conference.

Leading the exit interview were audit manager Kent Zirker and audit lead Brian Giles, who handled the on-site process.

According to exit conference information distributed by the team, the audit revealed no deficiencies in internal control over financial reporting for the financial statement audit.

In addition, there were no instances of non-compliance reported.

The report for the federal grant compliance audit did not include any findings, according to the distributed information.

“As audits go, great job for the commissioners, the staff, the county,” Kirker said.

“This is the report you want to have at the end of the audit.”

The audit cost and travel expenses totals $12,000, which is less than the 2008 audit at $20,095 that included similar processes.

Based on the current billing rate, the next audit in May 2012 – which will include accountability for public resources, financial statement and federal programs – is estimated at $45,000 plus travel expenses based on one federal program audit.

The 2009 audit of similar areas totaled $42,876.
