What they often forget about is that there are a lot of other communities or schools who see the same thing in their little tykes. Success is neve...

  • Congressional Mailbag

    Updated Nov 20, 2014

As my time representing you in Congress winds down, I wanted to take this opportunity to provide answer to some questions that I have been hearing from my constituents. What issue important to Central Washington has evolved during your years in Congress? This cost thousands of jobs in small communities throughout...

  • Consider information carefully

    Updated Nov 20, 2014

Should we fear Ebola, Enterovirus R-68 or the yearly influenza that kills many tens of thousands each year? I am concerned about all of the above! However, I will not waste time worrying as we have had epidemics in several countries over several centuries that have killed millions. Here in America we had a flu epidemic that killed millions as the First World War was being fought. I agree with Winston Churchill who said “all we have to fear is fear itself.” We are getting conflicting information from various sources so we nee... Full story

Hurricane Katrina devastated the gulf coast in 2005, flooding cities and towns in four states and killing more than 1,800 people. The government response to Katrina, especially by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), became the poster child for an inept and incompetent bureaucracy. But out of this disaster has come a story of success. The hurricane gave New Orleans educators the opportunity to reinvent the city’s failing public schools. Two years before the storm struck, the state had created the Louisiana Recovery S...
