    LIND – The Lind and Ritzville school districts have spent the summer adapting to a number of staff changes and increases in pay and benefits, while enrollment numbers have gone down slightly since 2021. Both school boards met July 25 in Lind and finalized their budgets for the 2022-23 school year, with a general materials, supplies and operating costs allocation of $1,314.52 per student in Ritzville and $1,461.11 per student in Lind.   • Ritzville and Adams County agree to matching funds on broadband project

    RITZVILLE – The City Council voted last Tuesday to contribute $85,877 in matching funds for its portion of the Adams County Broadband Project. The match will come from the city’s Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery fund. A grant of more than $10 million from the State Broadband Office will cover a majority of the project, which will upgrade fiber infrastructure and provide “last mile connections” to areas of Lind, Ritzville and the edge of Othello.     RITZVILLE -- The City Council amended the nuisance ordinance to provide for more effective enforcement of penalties during its July 5 meeting. Ordinance No. 2159 pertains to the unsightly or unsanitary conditions on property within city limits which might be a detriment to public health or safety.     LIND – An experienced local crop-dusting pilot was killed in a plane crash Saturday, July 2. Pilot Gavin Morse, 38, of Lind, was pronounced dead at the scene in a field west of town, the Washington State Patrol reported. There were no other occupants on board.     RITZVILLE – The Police Department may soon have two new officers. During the Tuesday, June 21 City Council meeting, Police Chief Dave McCormick said Ryan Borden and Robert Dew have passed their physical fitness tests and are “on track for the academy.” The officers were introduced during an April meeting, when the chief noted they were on “modified training” duty until they could get into the academy.     RITZVILLE – A local man is being held on $500,000 bail after being arrested in connection with a shooting in Bassett Park on Monday, June 20.
