Knights tame Broncos, 81-54

RITZVILLE - The Broncos boys basketball team had a good opening quarter, but just couldn't keep pace with the Royal Knights during a nonleague matchup Friday, Dec. 29.

The Knights won, 81-54.

The Knights took an 18-15 first quarter lead and grew the margin from there. By halftime, visiting Royal had a 38-31 lead.

The Knights sealed the win with an explosive third quarter, outscoring the local Lind-Ritzville/Sprague (7-5, 4-2 in league) boys 26-10 to take a 64-41 lead.

The fourth quarter also belonged to Royal, which grew the margin by 4 more points, 17-13, to win the game 81-54.

Royal's Caden Allred led all scorers with 27 points. Joey Duff led the Broncos with 20 points.

Others putting up points for the Broncos include Zach Klein with 13 and Shawn Steinberger with 10.

Bridger Moore added 5 points for the Broncos, Brock Kinch 4 and Lance Williamson 2.

The local boys return to the court Friday night, Jan. 5, when they host the Kettle Falls Bulldogs in Gilson Gymnasium. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs (9-2, 4-2 in league) come into the game following two wins last week.

On Dec. 27, Kettle Falls topped Tonasket, 59-25. The team followed up that victory with a 73-41 victory over Newport on Dec. 29.

The Kettle Falls-Lind/Ritzville matchup is a key game for both teams.

With both current 4-2 in league, the winner will take command of the No. 3 position in the Northeast 2B league behind St. George's (8-3, 5-0 in league) and undefeated Colfax (10-0, 3-0 in league).

On Saturday, Jan. 6, the Broncos will travel to Reardan (5-5, 2-3 in league) to take on the Screaming Eagles in another league matchup.

Game time is at 6 p.m. at Reardan High School.
