Driver runs red light, injures four

MOSES LAKE – A driver was charged with two counts of vehicular assault and DUI after failing to stop at a red light and injuring four people Feb. 23.

Evodio Morales Reyes of Othello, age 21, was traveling southbound on Highway 17 approaching the intersection of Nelson Road when he failed to stop and struck a vehicle driven by Vitalii Kuzhel of Moses Lake.

Kuzhel, 22, was eastbound on Nelson Road attempting to make a left turn onto northbound Highway 17 when he was struck by Morales Reyes running the red light.

Morales Reyes, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Hospital and flown to Sacred Heart.

His passenger, Luis Rodriguez of Warden, age 22, was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Hospital. He was wearing his seatbelt.

Kuzhel was wearing his seatbelt, but injured severely enough to also be flown to Sacred Heart after being transported by ambulance to Samaritan Hospital.

Kuzhel's passenger David Vorobey of Moses Lake was also flown to Sacred Heart after being transported by ambulance to Samaritan Hospital. Vorobey, 20, was sitting in the backseat and it is unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt.

Kuzhel's front seat passenger, Anitolii Nakonechnyi, 18, of Moses Lake, was not injured. It is unknown if he was wearing a seatbelt.

The collision occurred at 10:43 p.m.

Both vehicles were totaled and impounded in the WSP Moses Lake Bullpen.
