Colfax wins opening game over Lind-Ritzville-Sprague

COLFAX - Coming off a sweep of Davenport in the season-opener, the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos (1-1) dropped three in a row to the host Bulldogs on Tuesday night, Feb. 23.

Colfax (1-0) won the sets 25-16, 25-10 and 25-19.

Junior setter Justice Brown led the Bulldogs with 18 assists and 6 aces as teammate senior hitter Sophie Klaveano had nine kills. Anni Cox added 10 digs.

"It was great for our first night out," Colfax Coach Brandy Brown said after the win.

Individual stats for the Broncos were not immediately available.

The Broncos will travel to Upper Columbia Academy (1-0) on Thursday, Feb. 25, to face the Lions.

The Lions are coming off a season-opening 2B conference win over the Reardan Indians, 3-1, on Tuesday night in Spangle.

Lind-Ritzville-Sprague next plays Northwest Christian at home in Ritzville Saturday, Feb. 27. The JV game begins at 11 a.m. and the Varsity game starts at 12:30 p.m. Seniors will be honored prior to the Varsity game.

Oakesdale tops Garfield-Palouse

Oakesdale (4-0) swept Garfield-Palouse on the road Tuesday night in three sets, 25-18, 25-12, 25-13.

Senior LouEllen Reed led with 31 assists. Sophomore sister Jessie Reed had 24 digs. Gianna Anderson added 17 kills.

Oakesdale returns four starters from last year's state runner-up team.

"We've got quite a bit of talent back and they're all really hard workers," Oakesdale Coach McKinzie Turner siad. "I have to think they have a chance to match where where they were last year."

The Nighthawks will make their home debut Thursday against Pomeroy, for senior night.

Eagles fly past Pirates

Playing at Pomeroy, St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse downed the Pirates, 3-1, after dropping the first set Tuesday night.

Set scores were 17-25, 25-8, 25-23 and 25-15.

Eagles middle hitters Ashlynn Archer and Colby Swannack led in kills and Addisen Becker for assists.

"We're young, we only have one senior at a time on court, because they switch out for each other, but the team is playing really well," third-year Coach Jenn Johnson said. "I would call them resilient."

It was the second time in less than a week that St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse beat the defending state 1B champion Pomeroy.

On Feb. 20, the Eagles won, 3-1, in four sets - 17-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-17. Becker led with 23 assists and Ashlynn Archer had 16 kills and nine blocks. Senior Zoe Bailey got 12 digs.

Oakesdale tops St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse

Oakesdale won at St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse on Feb. 18 in three sets, 21-25, 13-25 and 26-28.

LouEllen Reed had with 28 assists and Anderson 14 kills. Jessie Reed recorded 21 digs.

For the Eagles, sophomore Addisen Becker led with 20 assists and junior Ashlynn Archer had 10 blocks.
