LRS' Linnea Schafer takes off at the start of the 1B/2B state championship cross country meet in Pasco on Nov. 9. Schafer finished the race in 29th place, with a time of 21:21.80.
Lind-Ritzville/Sprague's Linnea Schafer ended her 2019 cross country season by finishing 29th at the state championship in Pasco on Saturday. 112 girls entered the race. Schafer finished in 21:21.80.
LRS cross country coach Morgan Hunt said that Schafer's goal was to finish in under 21:00.
Schafer was the lone LRS athlete, male or female, to qualify for state. This is her second time qualifying for state. Last year, she finished 37th in 22:00. Schafer, a junior, will have one more opportunity to improve her finish next season.
The 1B/2B championship race was won by Gabby Martin of Life Christian Academy in 17:57.5. Martin's sub-18 minute finish would have placed her in the top half of the boys' race.
Daniel Quintana of Ilwaco won the boys race in 15:55.80.
