Volleyball looks to regroup after straight-sets loss

A busy past two weeks for the Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Lady Broncos volleyball team meant a longer rest period before getting back to action this week.

LRS entered the week coming off a straight set loss to Liberty on Oct. 1, 25-12, 25-21, 25-21.

Maisie Burnham had 16 kills and 11 digs to lead the undefeated Lancers over the visiting Lady Broncos.

Despite the loss, LRS head coach Cari Galbreath had some positive takeaways from the match against the league-leading Lancers.

“First set, we were still warming up or something,” Galbreath said. “It wasn’t good. I don’t know. I guess we were sleeping. But in the second and third set, I felt that we competed with them. Honestly, I feel it could go either way if we could minimize our unforced errors.”

LRS has another shot against Liberty on Oct. 24 at home.

On Oct. 8, LRS lost in straight-sets to Tri-Cities Prep at home. More information on this game will be available in next week’s issue of The Journal.

Up next, LRS travels to Upper Columbia Academy for a rematch with a squad that LRS beat in straight sets on Sept. 24.

“Hopefully we can take care of business with Upper Columbia,” Galbreath said. “We need that one.”

LRS will also be in action against Asotin on Saturday, Oct. 12. It will be the first time the teams face each other this season.

“Asotin, I don’t know what to expect,” Galbreath said. “They lost some seniors, but I’m sure they are still going to be decent. I think it’s going to be a battle.”

Galbreath says at this point of the season, she just wants to see her team keep improving.

“We still have work to do, but we are continuing to progress,” Galbreath said. “That’s hopeful for a coach.”
