The Ritzville Museums Committee and Volunteers are preparing for another season for the Burroughs Home and the Train Depot Museum.

The annual meeting for all volunteers is scheduled for Tuesday, May 14 at 11:30 a.m. This will be a no-host luncheon in the banquet room of the Ritz Roadhouse. The Museum Committee would like to encourage everyone to think about becoming a volunteer and serving as a docent at each museum. It is an opportunity to become involved in sharing the history of Adams County and the City of Ritzville.

Being a docent takes about two to four hours of a person’s day, and volunteers can sign up for as many days as they like. The museum is open from 12-4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday starting in June.

In addition, the museum is open to the public on Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend.

The Burroughs Home belonged to Dr. Frank Burroughs, who came to Ritzville in the late 1800s with his wife and daughter. The home is decorated in period-friendly furniture and we still have some of the original flooring and wallpaper. You step into the home and you are taken back with each room decorated just as it might have been back then. Information is available to assist the docents in explaining the history of the Burroughs family.

There will be an annual meeting to elect officers, and volunteers will have the opportunity to sign up to serve as a docent.
