Eva “Eve” Bachman

Eva “Eve” Conrad Bachman, 90, wife of the late James “Jim” Bachman, died early Nov. 5 in Spokane, surrounded by her loving family. Eve was the oldest child of nine, born June 25, 1927, to Claude and Catherine Jamieson Conrad, in Wilbur.

Achieving her milestone birthday of 90 years this past summer, Eve entered paradise and reunited with her loved ones who have gone before.

Eve attended Holy Names Academy for all 12 years of her primary education. After high school, she worked as a clerk at the Spokesman-Review newspaper.

During this time, a blind date was arranged, which led to Eve meeting her forever “Great Guy” Jim Bachman, while he attended barber school in Spokane. Within a few months of meeting, they were engaged and married on Sept. 5, 1948.

Eve relocated to Jim’s hometown of Washtucna. Seven children were born from January 1950 ending in November 1959. In addition to caring for her family and helping Jim with the barbershop, in the early ‘70s, Eve became the postmaster for Washtucna Post Office, retiring in 1992.

During retirement, Jim and Eve moved from Washtucna and relocated to Badger Lake, a long-standing, summer weekend getaway for the Bachman family.

In 2010, Eve moved to Touchmark retirement community on Spokane’s South hill and formed many wonderful friendships and was involved in many activities. Eve proudly held position of treasurer for the resident council.

Eve is preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Kerry Bachman (1996); her beloved daughter, Lynnette Bachman Crow (2015); her great-granddaughter Kayla (2000); and three of her nine siblings.

She is survived by six children and their seven spouses, all living in the state of Washington: Steven Crow of Goldendale, Randy (Ellen) Bachman of Benge, Kerry (Connie) Bachman of Goldendale, Evon (Don) Doyle of Pasco, Becky (Aaron) Neace of Asotin, Lance (Kathy) Bachman of Vancouver and Layne (Kay) Bachman of Spokane; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren all for whom she loved so very dearly.

Often, she proudly announced her responsibility for 51 immediate family members.

A memorial service mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, at the church of her youth, St. Aloysius, 330 E. Boone Ave, Spokane.

Committal of ashes will be in Washtucna Pioneer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to be made to a charitable organization of choice.
