LRS student encourages ‘yes’ vote

I am a junior at Lind-Ritzville High School. I have lived in Ritzville since I was 6 years old and I have gone to school here since I was in first grade.

I have also participated in every school activity you could think of because being a part of what the school provided for me was something I loved to do.

I was going into my final year of junior high when Lind and Ritzville combined academically, meaning that I have experienced many changes as well as have been a part of many traditions this community has developed.

I have also experienced many difficult issues that the school has gone through. Have you ever sat through a class shivering so much you can’t seem to write? Or been so hot that it was impossible to concentrate on the teacher’s lecture?

These are a few issues that I have dealt with since I was a freshman. The heating and cooling in the high school is unreliable.

This affects the students and staff most in the winter months because there are cracks in the walls that lets cool air into the classrooms, but we have limited heat to help warm them up so it stays terribly cold in many classrooms.

Also, the first and last months of the school year is not fun to deal with because of the warm weather.

Many classrooms absorb the solar rays creating the greenhouse effect, but we don’t have anything reliable enough to cool the rooms down.

The bond will help to improve the heating and cooling issues in our schools.

I hope the future students of the Ritzville school district will be able to take advantage of the wide varieties of activities like I was able to.

This wouldn’t be as easy because of our growing society and the technology that is needed for so many different classes.

So, by having unlimited computer access for these students, more opportunities for success in the future would be available.

The bond would allow expansion of technology in all classes and would help to update our school.

As I stated earlier, I am now a junior at this school meaning I am not able to vote for the bond, but I urge you, as a voter, to think of the students and staff who are in the school year-round and vote yes to improve their environment.

The opportunity to improve the future for many students to be able to experience a positive learning environment is so readily available if the voters will vote yes.
