Raymond “Bud” Howard Hunt

Raymond “Bud” Howard Hunt was born to Freeman and Inez May Hunt in Kennewick on December 14, 1920, and died on July 11, in Kennewick.

Bud grew up on the family wheat farm near Kahlotus. He graduated from Kahlotus High School in 1939 and from Eastern Washington College in Cheney in 1942 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Bud joined the Navy in 1942 and was stationed in San Diego, Philadelphia, and the Admiralty Islands. After the war, Bud returned to the family farm and continued to farm until he retired.

On Feb 19, 1967, Bud married Mary Lois, his college sweetheart, and they honeymooned in Hawaii. The newlyweds took over the operation of the family farm near Kahlotus.

They adopted two children in 1971, Tresa and Shawn. They later purchased their own farm near Washtucna and continued farming both places until their retirement to Walla Walla in August 1983.

While on the farm, Bud and Mary Lois enjoyed Grange activities, traveling, attending Connell Methodist church and Washtucna Community church, and their children’s activities.

After retirement, Bud enjoyed gardening and yardwork and he and Mary Lois enjoyed fishing, traveling, visiting family and friends, and attending church at Pioneer United Methodist and College Place Presbyterian for many years.

Mary Lois was an excellent cook and after they retired, Bud enjoyed cooking as well.

Ray was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lois, his parents, and his siblings, Marjorie Goos, John Hunt, and Margaret Fink.

Ray is survived by his sister Dorothy Sanchez and her husband Bob, children, Tresa Floyd and husband Robin of Kennewick, Leslie Ann Mulder of Bullhead, AZ, Bette Larsen of Kennewick, Terry Broderson of Broadview, MT, Jerry Broderson and wife Linda of Billings, MT, and Shawn Hunt; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nephews and nieces.

The Memorial Service was July 18, at 10 a.m. at Mueller’s Chapel of the Falls, 314 W. 1st., Kennewick. Interment at Moran Cemetery, Spokane, on July 18, at 3:00 p.m.
