Early Detection is Best

Kochia is an annual summer, invasive noxious weed and produces 14,600 seeds per plant. Kochia is very persistent; drought tolerant and can grow in a variety of soils. Early growth stage control is most effective. The key being to control or eradicate the plant before it goes to seed.

Control options consist of cultivation, mowing, hand pulling or by an herbicide application. Cultivation helps in the control of Kochia seedlings. Mowing is effective but it must be done on a consistent basis and though strenuous, hand pulling is also an effective way. As with any chemical herbicide treatment, always read the label before applying.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to the Adams County Noxious Weed Control Board office at 659-1806 or stop in at 201 W. Broadway.
