Broncos sweep doubleheaders against TR, Reardan

The Lind-Ritzville/Sprague Broncos defeated Tekoa-Rosalia during a doubleheader game on April 14 in Ritzville. First game was a low scoring game ending at 4-3 and the second; Broncos stepped up to defeat the Timberwolves 22-4.

Leffel effectively pitched most of the first game and Brandon McClure took over for the remaining inning ultimately winning the game for the Broncos, stated head coach Jason Aldrich.

With only four hits for the first game, Timberwolves pitcher was able to keep the Broncos just enough off balance to avoid extra scores against them.

In the second game, however, Timberwolves pitcher struggled, which allowed a high scoring game for the Broncos. Great defense by the Broncos kept the Tekoa-Rosalia score to a minimum.

Saturday, April 18, Broncos played against the Indians at Reardan winning both games in the double header. For the first game, Broncos scored 28 to the Indians 16 and second were able to hold Reardan at 11 while the Broncos scored 29.

Both games showed incredible offense as Broncos hit very well throughout. Cort Ruzicka hit the ball every time he stepped to the plate during the first game showing Aldrich something he hadn’t seen from any of his high school baseball teams.

Ruzicka batted a single, double, triple, homerun and eight RBIs for the game. Matthew Leffel, Colin Sheffels and Chandler Widman also were on top of the ball at the plate with Leffel having two R.B.I’s Sheffels and Widman each with three.

A slight struggle with Broncos pitching forced Aldrich to rotate through four players, Leffel, Sheffels, Damien Rouleau and McClure.

Overall, Aldrich was happy with the shutout games and looks forward to strengthening the pitchers as they progress further into the season with only six games remaining.

The Broncos played a home game against Davenport Tuesday, April 21, with results unavailable at press time. The Broncos overall record currently stands at six wins, eight losses.
