Broncos trample Tekoa-Rosalia on the gridiron

On Friday Sept. 19 the LRS Bronco football team traveled to face Tekoa-Rosalia in the Broncos’ third game in their season.

The Broncos took the game with ease, defeating the Timberwolves 63-0. The team scored 28 points in the first quarter. Alan Field would score first for the Broncos after pulling in a five-yard pass from Jacob Saetre.

Saetre would then run five yards for the Broncos next touchdown.

Saetre would connect with Tyler O’Brien for a 44-yard touchdown not long after. Dane Wahl would round out the Bronco scoring spree late in the first with a 17-yard run.

In the second quarter Saetre would complete a pass to Damien Rouleau for a 27-yard touchdown, bringing the game to 35-0.

Bryce Esser would then take over as quarterback and he would complete a 41-yard pass to Matt Leffel for the Broncos sixth touchdown.

The Bronco auxiliaries would score three more times in the game. First in the third quarter on a 47-yard run by Mason Brausen. Brausen would score again on a 37-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Peyton Kiel would finish off Bronco scoring with a seven-yard run for the team’s final touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Whitmore said the team met its goals for the week, continuing to improve. Leffel was able to convert on every extra point attempt and the Broncos were able to work on their quick-screen play.

“So all in all we did get better,” Whitmore said.

Whitmore also said the team left Rosalia mostly injury free, which is always a goal.

On Friday the Broncos will face the Wilbur-Creston Wildcats in Ritzville.

The Wildcats have moved up from eight-man football this year but Whitmore expects they will be good competition.

“They’ve got really good athletes, They’ve got decent size, good speed, good quarterback, good receivers,” he said, “It won’t be that kind of blowout.”

Whitmore also said a rivalry between the Wildcats and the Broncos seems to be building saying the team is really looking forward to playing against the Wildcats.

He also said Wilbur-Creston has a good offense that can either run or pass the ball very well. They also have a tall tight end that the Broncos will have to match Cort Ruzicka against on defense.

“It’ll be a good battle, our kids will really be up for it,” he said.

The game begins this Friday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. on Jimmie Snider Field in Ritzville.
