Virginia Esther Parn

Virginia Esther Parn, 91, a longtime Hoquiam area resident, died on Monday, Dec. 2, at Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen. She was born on June 18, 1922, in Odessa, Wash., to Jacob P. and Katherine (Lenhart) Weizel.

Virginia was raised on the family farm between Odessa and Ritzville. She attended school and graduated from high school in Odessa and then the Eastern Washington University in Cheney, where she earned her degree in Education.

Virginia came to Hoquiam and taught at Central Elementary and Lincoln Elementary Schools until she retired in the mid 1970s.

She was married to Orville E. Parn, on June 14, 1947, in Hoquiam. He died on Oct. 16, 2002. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Y Circle, the VFW Auxiliary, the Roamin’ Elks RV Club, the Emblem Club all of Hoquiam and the Retired Teachers Association. Virginia enjoyed fishing, reading, family reunions, bingo and her cat, Tilly.

She is survived by her daughter Shelley Nicholas of Hoquiam; son Gary Parn of Prineville, Ore .; grandson Brandon Nicholas of Everett; and great granddaughter, Erin Berg of Aberdeen.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Ferguson; a brother, LeeRoy Weizel; and a grandson, Raleigh C. Berg.

The family has requested donations be made to the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or to PAWS. A memory service was held on Dec. 7 at the United Methodist Church in Hoquiam.
