City employees deserve recognition

I believe that commendations are in order for Larry Swift, Ritzville Public Works Director, his crew, and the engineers hired by the city.

We, the City Council, charged them with the most ambitious undertaking of projects for the year of 2013, which I have ever seen in the 10 years I have been here.

They were called upon to oversee the drilling of a well, the installation of numerous waterlines, the reconstruction of First Avenue and the intersection of Division, Bauman Road, and Smitty’s Boulevard, the construction of a booster pump on Weber Road, the extension of water and sewer lines under the freeway, the removal of the old high school building, as well as dealing with the devastating wind storm, which destroyed many of the trees in the park and on the golf course.

Without their dedication and many long hours, all this work would never have been completed. This was done in addition to their various regular duties. Kris Robbins and the office staff managed to keep the cash flow going from grants and loans to pay all of these bills on time.

The next time you see one of these people, let them know that you appreciate them.

David A. Grove, Ritzville City Council member
