Idarose Schelly Colwell

Idarose Schelly Colwell died at the age of 96 on Nov. 10 in Ritzville.

She was born Oct. 26, 1917, to Charles and Laura Buehler Schelly in Denton, Mont. They moved to Ritzville in 1918, and she lived here the rest of her life.

She graduated Ritzville High School in 1935, and married Kenneth (Brick) Colwell in 1939. They joined his parents in building the Colwell Motel in 1950.

She and Brick operated the motel until 1956, when she went to work at the Adams County ASCS office. She worked for the ASCS office for 21 years, retiring in 1977, due to poor health.

She enjoyed working in her garden and flowers; was an avid sports fan, a member of the Bronc Boosters. She was a member of Zion Congregational Church and Daughters of Zion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, in 1990; parents, Charles and Laura; sisters, Melva Harthill, Adeline Walker and Mildred Cooper; and brother, Lee Schelly.

She is survived by nieces, Lillian Kimp and Janet Jarrell of Spokane, and Arlene Bowles of Bend, Ore .; nephews, Bill Harthill of Spokane and Alan Walker of Richland.

Viewing will be at Zion Philadelphia UCC in Ritzville on Tuesday, Nov. 19, from 10-11 a.m. Funeral service begins at 11 a.m. at Zion Philadelphia UCC and will be followed by interment at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery and a reception at the church.

Danekas Funeral Home of Ritzville is entrusted with arrangements.
