Primary Election Results: Hospital bond defeated, levies for trio of pools pass

The preliminary ballot count on Aug. 6 accounted for 1,704 total votes cast in Adams County, totaling 38.27 percent of voters returning ballots.

The General Obligation Bond placed on the ballot by East Adams Rural Hospital District No. 2 to construct a new hospital is currently failing.

With a total of 1,201 votes tabulated, 53.12 percent of votes were in opposition to the $10 million bond. The hospital district has already held a special meeting, electing to resubmit the bond to appear on the general election ballots in November.

After having the maintenance and operation (M&O) levy fail last year resulting in the closure of the community pool, the Washtucna Park and Recreation District No. 2 levy is currently passing with 67.50 percent of votes in favor. Eighty-one votes were cast in approval of the levy, which requires a super majority of 60 percent to pass.

In Lind, Park and Recreation District No. 3 M&O levy is passing with 71.65 percent of voters casting a ballot in favor of the annual levy. For the Park and Recreation District No. 4 in Ritzville, the levy is also passing with 506 votes in favor, amounting to 66.67 percent of votes.

In the race for the Town of Lind Council Position No. 2, incumbent PJ Jacobsen is currently trailing with 24.84 percent of votes. Candidate Calah Kulm is leading the race, earning 37.89 percent of votes, but is closely followed by candidate Kathy White who has received 36.65 percent of votes.

The Fire District No. 7 levy in Washtucna currently has 48 votes in favor of the levy, accounting for 88.89 percent of votes. The Cemetery District No. 1 in Washtucna has received 104 votes supporting the levy, totaling 85.95 percent of votes tabulated.

After the initial ballot count, an estimated 100 ballots were left to tabulate. The certification date for the primary election is Aug. 20.
