Geocaching event Aug. 4

A small group of local geocachers has organized an event in celebration of National Friendship Day on Sunday, Aug. 4, for geocachers to gather, share a meal, discuss geocaching and enjoy a day at the Ritzville City Park. The Friendship Day the Ritzville Way Geocaching event begins at 1 p.m. at the covered picnic area on the Columbia Street side of the park.

Geocaching is an outdoor, treasure-hunting game that uses global positioning system (GPS) devices to navigate and find the hidden geocache. Each geocache is different and is usually a container hidden at a variety of locations.

The afternoon event provides an opportunity for local geocachers to meet and also is available for individuals who are interested in learning more about geocaching.

The Friendship Day the Ritzville Way Geocaching event begins with a meet and greet, and individuals can also sign-in, register for door prizes and visit the trackable table during this time. At 1:30 p.m., the potluck begins and those in attendance are asked to bring their own beverages, plates and utensils.

From 2-3 p.m., the geocache activities begin with an introduction to the event for all first-time geocachers. Prizes are awarded at the conclusion of the geocaching event.
