Season comes to a close for Lady Tigercats

The Lady Tigercats played the final game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 2, against Colton and ended the season with a 76-11 loss to the Lady Wildcats. The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus team began the evening by honoring three senior athletes: one player from each school.

Colton began the game in a full court press against the Lady Tigercats, causing problems for the offense and eventually giving Colton a 27-2 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Colton team stopped pressing late in the first quarter, but continued to cause turnovers for the Lady Tigercats.

On the offensive end, the Lady Tigercats did not have an opportunity to run through plays because of the defensive pressure put on by the Colton team. The Lady Tigercats put up four shots in the first quarter, with the only shot to fall taken by Madison Harder.

The Lady Tigercats came out stronger in the second quarter, putting up 10 shots and converting those to four points. The Lady Tigercats rotated through all of their athletes to play in the final game of the season.

The team was without Jessica Guske, who suffered a knee injury during practice earlier in the week. The Lady Tigercats went into halftime trailing Colton 50-6.

In the second half, the Lady Tigercats stepped up defensively to limit Colton’s scoring percentage and were able to run through more plays on offense.

The second half of the game, the teams played without a shot clock and in a running clock scenario.

Leading the Lady Tigercats in scoring for the night was Harder with four points. Sophomore athlete Brooklynn Hostetler added three points to the total score, and Jazlynn Webb and Chelsie Kneale each had two points.

Throughout the entire season, head coach Don Kemper has credited the Lady Tigercats for their passion for the game and ability to give 100 percent on the court, regardless of the score. The Lady Tigercats finish the season with a 0–18 record.

After the game, Kemper mentioned the improvement of the team since the last time the Lady Tigercats played Colton. Even though the Lady Tigercats were unable to get a win this season, the team remained united on the court and played with heart.
