Lady Broncos score key victory

A 57-37 decisive victory over Davenport on Friday, Feb. 1, was just what the Lady Broncos needed to secure a trip to this weekend’s Sub Regional Tournament opener.

The Lady Broncos frustrated and dismantled the Lady Gorillas throughout the game, paced by 15 points from Jenna Bennett and 12 from Mallory Kessler.

The Lady Broncos had lost their first round outing to Northwest Christian, 56-27, and were still stinging when they took the court on Friday.

Despite Davenport’s aggressive play on the court and an occasional stray elbow, the Lady Broncos persevered.

Brooke Pichette provided seven points while Kristine Lamping, Maya Wahl and Haley Oestreich each scored five. Dalyn Killian and Sydney Nelson added three apiece and Randi York scored two.

Bennett had 14 rebounds in the game. Pichette had eight and Kessler grabbed seven. Lamping finished with six.

A one point victory on Saturday over St. George’s set up a chance to play on Monday for third and fourth place against Colfax.

During the St. George’s game the Lady Broncos made an impressive effort to take a 40-39 win.

Pichette led the team with 12 points while Killian added 11. Bennett contributed nine points.

Kessler and Wahl both scored four points in the win.

Killan gathered eight rebounds in the game. Bennett, Pichette and Wahl each snared six rebounds. Kessler had four.

Wahl finished with four steals and Lamping had four assists.

Monday, Colfax proved to be one of the league’s top teams and rolled to a 44-20 victory over the Lady Broncos.

Against Colfax, Killian led the team with six points. Bennett finished with four points.

Even so, the LRS squad earned a fourth place finish at the district tournament and the right to advance to the sub regional outing beginning Saturday, Feb. 9.

The District 9 opponent hasn’t been announced, but the game is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Dayton High School.
