Hospital district to discuss new hospital

The concept of constructing a new hospital or remodeling the existing facility has been on the drawing board for several years.

Thursday, Feb. 28, at 6:30 p.m., the Adams County Public Hospital District No. 2 Board of Commissioners will tackle the issue head on during a public meeting at the C.J. Newland American Legion Memorial Hall.

Between now and then, the district’s building committee and the commissioners will be working to gather specific cost estimates and develop an indepth list of pros and cons between building new and remodeling.

One challenge is numerous building upgrades the state intends to require at the current hospital.

Commissioners have already embraced the building committee’s recommendation that new construction is the most viable and likely the most affordable option.

The Feb. 28 discussion will also address funding for a new facility and the possibility of a ballot measure that would seek voter support for a 30-year general obligation bond to fund the project.

Look for extensive details in next week’s edition of The Journal after the newspaper staff meets with the building committee later this week.
