Dayton tourney unsuccessful outing for Lady T-cats

The Lady Tigercats traveled to the Dayton Tournament looking to earn the first win of the season, but returned home empty handed. The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus girls’ team battled against Dayton and Elgin at the tournament, falling to Dayton, 46-19, and Elgin, 51-43.

The Lady Tigercats took to the court aggressively and stayed closely matched with Dayton throughout the first quarter. At the conclusion of the first quarter, the LWK girls trailed by only one point.

Dayton took control during the remainder of the game, outscoring the Lady Tigercats 12-4 in the second quarter, 4-11 in the third quarter and 4-15 in the fourth quarter.

Ashtyn Aune led the Lady Tigercats in scoring with eight points, followed by Kadie Whinery who scored four points for the team. Lindsey Miller, Jessica Guske and Chelsie Kneale all contributed two points, while Breaze Wolfe scored one point.

On Friday, Dec. 28, the Lady Tigercats battled against Elgin and kept the game close during the first half. The Lady Tigercats went into halftime trailing Elgin by two points, 21-23, but after halftime, Elgin ran away with the lead.

The Lady Tigercats distributed the scoring throughout the team, the first time in the season where two athletes have had numbers in the double digits. The balanced team scoring helped the Lady Tigercats maintain control throughout the game and lose by the close margin of eight points.

Miller stepped up offensively to lead the Lady Tigercats in scoring with a total of 16 points in the game. LeAnne Blauert put up 10 points against Elgin and Aune contributed eight points.

Guske had six points during the game, while Whinery had two points. Wolfe made a free throw shot for one point.

The Lady Tigercats face the number one seated team in the Southeast 1B league, Colton, on Friday, followed by a game against Garfield-Palouse on Saturday. Gar-Pal is ranked seventh in league with a record of 1-4, while the Lady Tigercats are ranked in eighth with a league record of 0-5.
