Rev. Dexter H. Edwards Jr.

Reverend Dexter H. Edwards Jr., died on Saturday, Nov. 24. He was born May 22, 1926.

He joined the United States Navy in 1944 and served in South Pacific and Okinawa on the USS Burleson and USS Taledega.

He married Myrtle J. Brinkmann on Dec. 23, 1947. He attended Colorado State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture in 1950. He continued his education earning a Master of Theology from Dallas Seminary in 1961, Master of Cross-Cultural Communications from Wheaton College Graduate School, and ordained in Colorado in 1951.

He served churches in many locations like Hawaii, Iowa, California, Oregon, Michigan and Washington. He was executive director and developer of the Multnomah Training Mission in Portland, Ore.; he served with Inter-varsity Christian Fellowship, and with Christian Service Brigade boys clubs.

He and family, served as missionaries to the Kau’ District of the big island of Hawaii in five preaching points; also served as assistant pastor of Kaimuki Evangelical church in Honolulu; he helped to rebuild the Memorial Chapel at Punaluu, Hawaii, in memory of Henry Opukuhaia; served on the commit of church and ministry for the United Church of Christ; and was chaplain for the American Legion for 15 years.

He is proceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara; and daughter, Elizabeth Ann.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle; daughter, Pamela; sons, Brian (Karen) and Jonathan; brothers, Richard (Mikki) and Donald (Ruth); grandchildren, Keith (Jessica); Reid and Annalise; great-grandchildren, Brielle and Eilliot.

A memorial service was held at the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Lind. Condolences may be sent to the family at PO Box 582, Lind WA 99341.
