Lady Tigercats fall in tie-breaker

The Lady Tigercats played their last game this week, ending with a loss and the conclusion of the season.

The Lady Tigercats played Tri-Cities Prep on Thursday, Oct. 25, and lost in four sets with scores of 25-19, 10-25, 8-25, 21-25.

“The team had a strong first set. They played really well as a team, communicating really well and working hard. We fought hard and didn’t give up the fourth set. The girls did a good job covering, which we have been working a lot on. The girls focused on their serves and did a good job,” said head coach Sarah Mayer.

Logan Harder stepped up to lead the team offensively and defensively, ending the game with 10 digs and 10 kills for the Lady Tigercats.

Ashtyn Aune also had an impressive game, racking up 11 assists and three aces. Senior athlete, Shayla Sisk, had two blocks during the game.

The Lady Tigercats played solid defense throughout the four sets, and the TCP team was unable to score any points off of aces.

The totals for the Lady Tigercats team included eight aces, 23 kills, 21 assists, 36 digs and four blocks.

Due to a three-way tie in the league for fourth place, the Lady Tigercats had one last game to play on Tuesday, Oct. 30, and were matched up against Liberty Christian. In order to move on to the district tournament, the Lady Tigercats had to defeat the Liberty Christian team.

The Lady Tigercats lost in three sets with scores of 8-25, 23-25, 24-26. The loss marked the end of the season for the Lady Tigercats.

“Tonight (Oct. 30) was an emotional night. The team took a little bit to get energized, but once they did they worked hard and came together as a united team,” said Mayer. “They worked hard digging tonight and did a wonderful job positioning themselves for the dig. Tonight was the last game for three of our seniors, Logan Harder, Shayla Sisk, and Chelsie Kneale. I am so proud of our seniors and our team.” 

Kadie Whinery led the team defensively with 10 digs during the three sets. Aune and Lindsey Miller both had three assists during the game.

Gail Harder and Logan Harder were leaders offensively and both girls scored four points off of kills. Sisk controlled the net, earning three blocks during the evening match.

Logan Harder also had three aces, leading the Lady Tigercats in serving.

The Lady Tigercats had a successful night serving, with the team being in the 93 percentile for completed serves.
