Tigercats winning season continues with 40-point victory

The LaCrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus football team continues to steamroll the competition with a 66-36 win over the Pomeroy Pirates last Friday night.

The Tigercats remain undefeated in league play and are 5-1 on the season.

Multiple players on the Tigercats team earned the 40-point win through spectacular performances. Senior running back for the Tigercats, Johnathan Holdren, scored four touchdowns and a two-point conversion for his team.

Quarterback Joey Guske picked up the passing game during the league match to throw two touchdown passes and run in one touchdown.

The Tigercats controlled the first quarter by holding Pomeroy scoreless and making one touchdown. Holdren earned his first points of the night off of a 35-yard while Sam Harder brought in the extra two points with a pass from Guske.

The second quarter proved to be high scoring as the Tigercats ran in four touchdowns for 22-points. Pomeroy’s offense came alive to score two touchdowns and bring the halftime score to 30-14.

Pomeroy athlete Kyle Hyer earned the first points of the second quarter off of a 54-yard run and the team was able to bring in the extra two points.

The Tigercats responded with a 37-yard run by Harder, but were unable to run the ball to the end zone for extra points.

A 26-yard pass play from Guske to Holdren put the Tigercats up another touchdown and Holdren snuck through the Pomeroy defense for two-points.

But Pomeroy’s offense broke loose and ran away from the Tigercats’ tackles with a pass play from Ryan Smith to Hyer, earning Pomeroy 90 yards and a touchdown. Smith ran past the Tigercat defense to score two-points.

The Tigercats ended the second quarter scoring with a five-yard run by Holdren and a two-point conversion by Harder.

Coming out of halftime, the Tigercats proved ready to play with a 70-yard pass reception from Guske to Holdren. The Tigercats were unable to earn the extra two points on a failed pass.

After a high scoring second half, the defense of both teams stepped up to hold each other to one touchdown in the third quarter. Hyer scored the only Pomeroy touchdown on a two-yard run and he also scored the two-points for his team.

The fourth quarter took off in a scoring frenzy with the Tigercats tacking 30 points to the scoreboard and the Pirates adding 12.

The Pirates started off the last quarter scoring with a 75-yard run by Smith, but a run for the extra points fell short.

LWK athlete Alec Fleming got his first points of the game with a 23-yard run and tacked on two more points with a pass reception from Guske after the touchdown.

Guske would earn another eight points for his team off of a 35-yard run before the Pirates were able to respond.

On a quarterback keeper, Smith sprinted past the Tigercats defense on a 55-yard run but the team was unable to earn the extra points.

Bo Rice put up six points on a 15-yard run and Guske completed the play for two-points. The final points of the game came off of an interception by Harder, who ran the ball back 40 yards to put the Tigercats up by 40 points.

The Tigercats continue league play at home on Friday, Oct. 12, in Washtucna at 7 p.m. against the Touchet Indians.
