Lady T-cats earn homecoming win

The Lady Tigercats faced the Touchet Lady Indians during homecoming week at Washtucna High School on Thursday, Sept. 27. The Lady Tigercats earned the win in four matches against the Lady Indians with scores of 18-25, 25-14, 25-22 and 25-14.

Senior athlete Logan Harder again stepped up to lead the team by example, earning a total of 13 kills against the Lady Indians in the homecoming match.

The team had a spectacular game and with consistent serving, the team collectively had 25 aces. Another impressive 25 points spread throughout the four matches came from kills, half of those being attributed to Harder.

The team recorded 21 assists and 17 digs to help give the Lady Tigercats their second league win. The three blocks helped boost the enthusiasm and intensity of the match to motivate the team during the homecoming week game.

The Lady Tigercats setter, Lindsey Miller, earned 11 assists during the game. Kadie Whinery stepped as a leader on offense and defense, blocking two hits and racking up eight aces during the game.

Leading the team in defense was senior athlete Shayla Sisk, who earned six digs to help her team walk away with the victory.

The Lady Indians were lead by two girls during the Southeast 1B game, CierraJo McKeown and Kristen Warner. McKeown lead the team with 11 assists and three aces, while Warner earned eight kills and 10 digs during the four-set game.

“This was our homecoming match and the girls played with great enthusiasm! We did a good job at communicating and supporting each other,” said head coach Sarah Mayer. “The girls worked really hard on covering the block and transitioning back to base. This was a fun match.”

Tuesday, Oct. 2, the Lady Tigercats battled against Tekoa-Oakesdale in a league game but lost in three sets to the Lady Nighthawks, 9-25; 16-25; 9-25.

The game was a team effort and multiple Lady Tigercat athletes stepped up to become leaders for the team. Harder and Brooklynn Hostetler each tacked six points on the board with kills during the Tuesday night game.

As a whole, the team racked up 14 kills against the Lady Nighthawks, which they matched with 14 assists, eight of which are contributed to Miller. Hostetler also led the team with four digs and the team earned 13 as a whole.

Gail Harder and Whinery earned one ace each and the only aces for the Lady Tigercats. Whinery also had two of the three blocks for the team.

“Tonight (Tuesday) the team did a good job serving. We will work on receiving the ball as well as continue working on transitioning and covering,” Mayer said. “The team maintained a positive attitude tonight and I am pleased with their teamwork.”

The Lady Tigercats travel to Liberty Christian on Thursday, Oct. 4, with the game beginning at 5 p.m.
