Lady T-cats defeated in second league game

The LaCrosse-Washtucna Lady Tigercats faced two tough match ups against Pomeroy and St. John-Endicott.

The Lady Tigercats first battled against the Pomeroy Lady Pirates on Thursday, Sept. 21, and lost the non-league game in four matches. The Lady Tigercats lost the first two matches 16-25 and 21-25, before making a come back in the third match and ending with a score of 27-25.

The Lady Tigercats lost the fourth match 16-25, giving the victory to the Lady Pirates. The Lady Tigercats leaders continued to show strength and power in their positions on the court.

Senior athlete Logan Harder stepped up to have six kills for the Lady Tigercats with assists coming from setter Anna Roberts who had six assists in the game. Roberts also lead her team in serving with three aces.

Harder had a spectacular game and lead the Lady Tigercats with five digs and one block. The Lady Pirates leader, Mackie Monahan, had 15 kills against the Lady Tigercats and Pomeroy’s setter, Ireland Mayfield had a total of 25 assists during the game.

“The team did a good job adjusting their serves so they became more consistent as well as adjusting to hit around the block. As a team we ran a new offense and saw many positive changes,” head coach Sarah Mayer said. “We will continue to work on keeping our energy high as well as implementing effective communication.”

The Lady Tigercats played St. John-Endicott in the second league game of the season and walked away with a loss. The LW team lost in three matches with scores of 22-25, 19-25 and 22-25.

Harder’s performance allowed her to lead the Lady Tigercats in kills and digs. She earned six points with hits that went untouched by the opposing team and earned three digs.

Lindsey Miller stepped up in the setter position to rack up a total of 10 assists during the game. Kadie Whinery had an exceptional game and led the team with four aces and one block.

“The team did a good job adjusting to the serve. We worked on being consistent with our serves,” Mayer said. “The girls remained positive and worked hard throughout the entire game. We will continue to work at communicating as a team.”

The Lady Tigercats face Touchet in the homecoming game on Thursday, Sept. 27, in Washtucna, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The varsity game is being played first, before the junior varsity matches.

The LW team continues on to face Tekoa-Oakesdale in LaCrosse on Tuesday, Oct. 2, starting at 5 p.m.
