Miller takes big lead in judge’s race, Plager and Marshall advance in commissioner’s duel

Adams County had 32.41 percent of registered voters cast a ballot in the primary election on Tuesday, Aug. 7, with a total of 2,022 ballots counted during the first tabulation. An estimated 600 ballots are going to be counted on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

All ballots that have been postmarked before Aug. 7 are counted in the primary election. The Tuesday ballot count did not include the drop boxes in Othello or at Ritzville City Hall.

The Adams County Auditor’s office certifies the primary election results on Tuesday, Aug. 21.

The Superior Court Judge position was decided in the primary election with Brian Miller currently earning 55.52 percent and a total 1,086 votes. Opponent Randy Flyckt earned 44.22 percent and 865 votes total.

“I want to thank the voters of Adams County for the confidence they showed in me,” Miller said. “I need to thank the committtees that worked very hard for me and of course my family for all of their support.

“It’s really a great honor to be elected superior court judge of Adams County,” Miller continued. “It’s very satisfying that I will continue the 103-year tradition of my famly practicing law here. I will strive to continue the work that Judge (Richard) Miller has done over 24 years on the bench.”

In the Adams County Commissioner District No. 1 race, incumbent Rudy Plager and John Marshall will appear on the general election ballot this November. Opponent Donald Gentry is no longer in the race having only earned 11.33 percent of votes and Plager received the majority of votes, earning 57.14 percent and 696 total votes.

For all of the Park and Recreation districts maintenance and operation levies, all levies must pass by a 60 percent vote. Park and Recreation District No. 2 in Washtucna had 56.12 percent votes in approval of the levy, and Park and Recreation District No. 3 in Lind had 55.91 percent in approval.
