4-H club welcomes new members, elects officers

During a regular meeting of the Ritzville 4-H Livestock Club on June 21, the group welcomed four new members and elected officers for the year. Eliza Galbreath, Trinity Wyma, Drew Kelly and Brynne Nelson are all new members while the officers for the upcoming year are Hallie Jo Galbreath, president; Easton Nelson, vice president; Erica Leffel, secretary; Bryce Esser, treasurer; and Heather Hennings as reporter.

This year, there are 18 club members studying animal sciences.

Leading the sheep and beef project, as well as the overall club, is Camille Nelson. Jodi Esser leads swine projects and junior leaders are Haley Oestreich and Sydney Nelson.

Educational demonstrations were presented to the club during the regular meeting. “It’s good to get a lickin’” was presented by Heather Hennings to illustrate salt and mineral feeding. Hallie Jo Galbreath presented “skeleton of a cow” to show and explain cattle bones.

The next Ritzville 4-H Livestock Club meeting is on July 26 and is when the club will be doing a show clothing exchange. Bryce Esser, Erica Leffel, Jesse Anderson, Abby Gering, Easton Nelson, Caden Liberty, Merlee Liberty, Kierstin Witt and Bryce Kelly are also scheduled to give demonstrations.

Youth interested in beginning a 4-H project in livestock sciences should contact Camille Nelson at 659-0832 to become involved in the club.
