Joan Shirtcliff

Joan Shirtcliff passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, June 7, with her children at her side.

She was born in Ellsworth, Minn., on October 1936. In 1966, she moved to Lind with her husband and five children.

Always a hard worker, she wore many figurative hats, her favorites being that of Mom and Grandma.

After working for many years outside of her home, she retired due to illness.

Though homebound the majority of her later years, she enjoyed communicating with friends and family members, quite often in her home, or via the Internet.

She was an avid reader, an intense Scrabble player and she enjoyed Facebook and playing Farmville and Spider Solitaire on the computer.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents, two brothers and her granddaughter, Christa Ashley Hays.

She is survived by a sister, Jean Hall; brothers, Ron, Dick, Bob and Bill Pacholl, all of Oregon; five children, Joan Sauer, Jean Pennel and Donna Fritchle, all of Lind, Dan Jeppsen of Republic and Lori Kinzel of Ephrata; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

“We can shed tears that she is gone, or we can smile because she has lived… We miss you Mom, we love you.”

Upon her request, a private family memorial and celebration of her life is scheduled for June 29 in Republic.
