Freda B. Mead

Freda B. Mead died at the age of 89 on Monday, May 7, at Stonebridge Memory Care Center in Vancouver, Wash.

She was born on July 5, 1922, to Fred and Lisa Bergum in rural eastern Montana. She married Hugh J. Mead on February 24, 1945. The couple moved to Lind, where they raised their family and owned Mead’s Welding and Repair. She was the secretary at Lind High School for numerous years. She was an active member of Good Hope Lutheran Church and served on many local committees.

She loved to work in her garden and was an avid crafter. Bingo became a daily event in her life, while residing at Rose Garden Estates in Ritzville. Her pride in her Norwegian heritage was passed onto her grandchildren, including the art of flipping the lefsa.

She is proceeded in death by her husband, Hugh J. (Bill) Mead, and daughter, Lisa Lynnae Mead Marsh.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Sitko of Washougal, Wash., Becky (Tom) Kiersky of Corvallis, Ore., and Kim (Mark) Heider of Connell; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is to be held on Wednesday, May 23 at 2 p.m. at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Lind, followed by a luncheon at the Lind Senior Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made in her name to Good Hope Lutheran Church, PO Box 336, Lind WA 99341.
