Ralston Grange to host pancake, sausage feed

A pancake and sausage feed, sponsored by the Ralston Grange, is being held on Tuesday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m. Music and entertainment performances are scheduled to begin immediately following the meal.

The event also serves as an opportunity to celebrate Mother’s Day, as the men are the cooks preparing the nighttime meal. The sausage for the event is Charlie Schoonover’s famous sausage from CL Meats.

The Grange is inviting the residents from surrounding communities who want to enjoy a good meal, meet neighbors and learn more about the family-oriented community organization. The festivities conclude by 8 p.m. to allow families with small children to arrive home at a reasonable hour.

The special guest for the evening is Washington State Grange President, Duane Hamp. Hamp is a Spokane native and a third-generation Granger who was elected as Grange Master of the Washington State Grange in June 2011.

The Ralston Grange started in 1930 and with over 100 members today, it continues to be an active part of the community. The Grange has a community park in Ralston that is dedicated in memory of Reinhardt Keppler, a Medal of Honor recipient who was born in Ralston.

Members of the Ralston Grange constructed a bingo building at the Wheat Land Communities’ Fairgrounds and also built the main Grange Hall in Ralston.

Every year, the Grange sponsors a number of community events and activities, which include an Easter egg hunt, Thanksgiving and Christmas programs, the bingo and food concession stands at the fair, a scholarship program, litter clean-up, support for Adams County Pet Rescue, food banks and other local causes.

The Ralston Grange also supports the Ralston Junior Grange/4-H club that participates in many activities throughout the year.

The Grange is working at the Schrag Rest Area on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20. Additional volunteers are needed to work some of the shifts.

The Tuesday night event provides area residents with the opportunity to learn more about the Grange and its history while enjoying a good meal and fun entertainment.

Anyone that wants to help at the Schrag Rest Area or needing more information on the upcoming pancake and sausage feed can contact Randy Roth at 659-0893.
